Dixon boots winner enjoying competition prize

The winner of a competition to win a pair of Kieran Dixon’s boots is already putting them to good use after joining a ladies rugby team in the city.

Jade Smalley recently won the money-can’t-buy prize as part of a competition organised and run by club sponsor Outbox, who helped the winger to design his own pair of brightly coloured Adidas boots.

Two pairs were made – one being worn by the speedy winger to score a succession of Super League tries – and the other won by Jade as part of a competition run on Twitter by Kieran’s player sponsor Outbox.

The business solutions company even arranged for Jade to dine with the first team squad at the KC Lightstream Stadium and collect the boots from Kieran during a presentation over lunch.

However, after getting her hands on the unique prize, there was no danger of Jade putting them into storage as a treasured possession. Instead the 15-year-old has been wearing them in training for Wyke Ladies, where she plays alongside her mum Anna as part of the only mother-daughter pairing in the Women’s Rugby League Association.

Mum Anna said: “We live for rugby so it's been brilliant. Jade enjoyed every minute of the afternoon with Kieran and the players – the photos, lunch, presentation, everything! It was a great job and one happy girl.”

The competition was run by Outbox and the club to improve audience participation for the Rovers sponsor, with the company’s Twitter following increasing from 164 followers to over 500.

Lorraine Prentice, Marketing Executive for Outbox, said: “We would like to thank Rovers for supporting the Kieran Dixon boots competition and hosting the presentation. Jade and her mum thoroughly enjoyed the day, as did I.

“The players and support team were very welcoming, some going out of their way to speak to and congratulate Jade on winning the boots. Thank you Hull Kingston Rovers for continuously supporting your sponsors.”
