Craig Sandercock’s post match reaction
Having seen his side make it back to back Super League victories with a 44-16 win over London this afternoon, Craig Sandercock admits that there is still plenty of improvement to come from the Robins.
A hat-trick from David Hodgson and a brace from Kris Welham were the highlights for Rovers who rattled in seven tries to record what was a comfortable victory in the end.
"It's pleasing to get the win and we scored some good tries out there today," Sandercock said. "Obviously we have a lot of improving to do and need to respect the football a bit better than we did this afternoon. We also need to work on our discipline in the first half and if we can do that then hopefully we can move forward and make some solid progress.
"Possibly there's a bit of over-exuberance from our boys early in the game and maybe they're a little bit too enthusiastic. That can lead to a few untidy errors at the play the ball which is what happened today and it's something that we're working hard at in training as we don't want to be giving seven penalties away in the first half every week and only getting one or two back.
"It's something we'll keep working on and hopefully in a couple of weeks' time I'll be stood here saying that we've improved in that area."
When asked what the most pleasing aspects of the victory were, Sandercock added:
"I think we scored some really good tries and looked pretty comfortable. Having Blake Green out there was good and he improved immensely on what he did last week which was probably one of the most pleasing things for me."
Sam Latus had tonsillitis which was very disappointing for him and Dave (Hodgson) wasn't quite 100 per cent which is why we didn't name him.
"Unfortunately though, we don't have many options on the wing at the moment and with Sam being out, the logical choice was to bring Dave in and try to get him through without making his injury worse."
With no game next weekend having been knocked out of the Challenge Cup, the Robins will be able to focus fully on their next league fixture which is a trip to Wigan on Friday week.
"Whenever you've got a week off, it's always good to go into with a win, that's for sure," Sandercock continued.. "There's nothing worse that stewing on a loss for a couple of weeks and it was important that we put in a decent performance today."
