Tony Smith – Craven Park Will be ‘Rocking’ For Catalans

Hull KR Head Coach, Tony Smith spoke to press on preparing for Catalans, and the excitement of having fans back for Monday’s rematch at Hull College Craven Park.

Facing the Dragons for the second time in nine days, Hull KR will welcome fans back to an 8,000 capped, Hull College Craven Park hoping their return will give the team a timely boost against the league leaders.

On KRTV, Tony Smith noted his high hopes for the ‘reunion’ with fans after feeling their absence in Perpignan: “It’ll be rocking. They’ll come out in numbers, Monday won’t stop them.

“We looked up into their corner (at Stade Gilbert-Brutus) and there was nobody there. We missed them. Had they have been there, I reckon they would have gotten us home. To push us on a few times when we needed that inspiration.”

Still, Smith was quick to complement Catalans – specifically veteran, James Maloney and promising French star, Arthur Mourgue: “They’re a good team, they’re well-coached.

“A lot of good experienced players with some young French boys coming through. Which I think is really important in having a Catalans team – producing young French players for the future.

He (Maloney) manages games terrifically well, he kicks teams to death and drowns teams out of games with the way he finishes sets. Young Mourgue is a huge threat too, in a different way. He’s electric and puts you on notice.”

After terrorising Catalans with spiralling kicks in Saturday’s first half, Abdull was heavily targeted by the Dragons after half-time – dampening the Robins’ kicking options.

Tony Smith highlighted the Dragon’s kick pressure: “They (Catalans) were much better (in the second half) at kick pressure than they were in the first half. We’ll come up with some ways of making sure Jordan gets more of his kicks in as well as some other options when the kick pressure comes after Jordan.

“We’ll get ready for both. We’ll learn some stuff from last week and we’ll have make changes.”
