Following a two-year tenure as captain of Hull Kingston Rovers, we can now confirm Shaun Lunt will be stepping down for 2019, making room for the latest man to fill the boots of the fans favourite.

Leading the side out during 2017/18, the hooker will be passing the torch to a team mate as his focuses on his rehabilitation process to return to full health to give his all to the Robins once more.

“I thought that with everything that I went through last year, I’ve got to concentrate on my health, I’ve got a long way to go to get back to 100%. In terms of captaincy and the added pressure I feel like I didn’t need it.

“I need to be selfish and worry about myself and make sure that my health is 100%. Another thing is that I haven’t really focused on pre-season just yet – I don’t think I am in a position to have earnt it. The lads have worked hard all pre-season so I don’t think I deserved it this year.

“It’s always been something I have held in high regards. It is a good thing to be named as captain for such a historical club. There have been some fantastic captains here, so this person that has been named captain will do a great job.”

Lunt was asked if it was a difficult decision to make, stepping down from the illustrious role: “It was a great honour to help lead this club and something I have really cherished these last two seasons, but like I say I have to be selfish. Then I can get out there and play my best rugby.

“Obviously he has got my vote, I’m sure that he won’t need any guidance, he has been a top player and has played at the highest level all of his career, so he has got my backing one hundred and ten percent.

“He leads by example in everything that he does, he has come through a great school of rugby so he has got every attribute you need to be a captain and more importantly he leads out on the field.

“He has had an unbelievable pre-season and he has got the backing of all of the club. I’m sure the fans will be pleased with the decision.
