Sandercock satisfied with his young side
They may not have come out on the right side of the scoreboard, but Robins' Head Coach, Craig Sandercock, was more than happy with the way a young Rovers' side acquitted themselves against Featherstone.
It was a tough workout for the Robins' youngsters and one that Sandercock says he and his players can take plenty of positives from.
“Obviously we didn't get the win, which is what we came here for, but given that we had so many kids in the side I was pretty happy,” he said.
“I thought most of the young blokes did well but they need to be a bit more consistent across the 80 minutes as that's what makes a good first team player.
“But all in all they showed some really good signs and the future looks pretty rosy. In saying that though, in the short-term they're probably still not ready as some parts of their game need some hard work in order to get them to that next level.”
Only skipper for day, Joel Clinton, and Sam Latus provided any real first team experience in Rovers' starting 13 and Sandercock was happy with the way they set the example for their team-mates.
“I thought Joel went well,” he added. “He made some good metres for us and was very strong and physical out there so I was pretty happy with him and happy that he got through some decent minutes.
“I was also happy with Sam – he's a really good talker and that's a very important asset for any full-back to have. He did well and overall I was happy with his performance.”
Wigan Warriors will provide the opposition at Craven Park for the Robins' second pre-season friendly next Sunday and it'll be a case of continuing to build and prepare ahead of the 2012 Super League season.
“The boys probably aren't where I want them to be because then they'd be perfect but we're getting there,” Sandercock continued with a smile.
“At 12-4 up we made a couple of silly errors which allowed Featherstone to score a couple of tries and without those errors the result could have been different. But all in all I was reasonably happy with the effort the boys put in.”Back To Latest News +
