Ryan Shaw hopes for hat-trick of derby wins ahead of Hull FC clash
Hull Kingston Rovers winger Ryan Shaw hopes the club can make it three Derby wins on the spin when taking on Hull FC.
Rovers make the short trip across the river this Good Friday for the highly-anticipated Betfred Super League clash at the KCOM Stadium.
Claiming victory in their previous encounters, a 20-16 success in the west of the city in July 2018 before Jimmy Keinhorst’s memorable last-gasp winner in round one, Shaw is seeking a hat-trick of wins over the cross-city rivals.
“I’m looking forward to it – in the last two years we haven’t gone three games on the bounce winning the derby,” Shaw told hullkr.co.uk.
“It’s something for us to strive for and if we can get that win it’ll set us up nicely for Warrington on Monday.
“In Bureta Faraimo and Ratu Naulago, they’re big physical wingers so we’ll have a look at them and see how they go.”
Shaw was on the scoresheet in last Thursday’s Coral Challenge Cup win over Leigh Centurions, with improvements needed from the KR team if they’re to turn over an FC outfit who clinched a golden point victory at Catalans Dragons last time out.
The sixth-round draw will be held tonight (Monday) and Shaw is relieved to still be involved in the competition.
“We got the win and we’re in the hat for the next round. It wasn’t pretty and we made it hard for ourselves defensively with a few misses. We made a few simple errors and our skills weren’t great. This week is going to be tough for us but we have to take the positives from it.
“When we were in the Championship and you play these teams they step their game up and bring you into a bit of a fight. Leigh had physical lads and they bullied us, which is one of the reasons we struggled a bit.”Back To Latest News +
