Rovers team up with Hull College and Archbishop Sentamu Academy Sixth-Form to create Development Academy

Hull Kingston Rovers are delighted to announce the creation of the Development Academy in time for the 2020 campaign.

The club’s Academy set-up has been brought in-house from next season, with hard work continuing behind the scenes to ensure the success of its future stars.

A new branch of the Academy has been produced in collaboration with our educational partners Hull College and Archbishop Sentamu Academy Sixth-Form.

Students from both of those education providers will be eligible for the Development Academy, which will provide a new pathway for players, and also gives a route back into playing for those individuals who are keen to impress in rugby league.

The new intake of players will then allow each coach to keep a lookout for additional talent across the course of the academic year.

Hull KR’s Academy Education Manager Peter Grayburn said: “The Development Academy is just another string to our growing bow that is the Hull KR Academy.

“No stone will be left unturned in trying to find the talent of tomorrow for the Robins. Together with Hull College and Archbishop Sentamu Academy sixth-form, Hull Kingston Rovers are committed to giving students another opportunity to succeed in the game.”

Hull KR’s Head of Youth John Bastian said: “Excited about being part of Development Academy and creating more opportunities for young players in education and rugby league.

“This pathway offers young people not only exciting education opportunities but also if they reach the right standards in rugby league, a pathway into Hull Kingston Rovers under-18s’ academy system, which would result in a part-time professional contract.”
