Robins are ready

The hard work that pre-season provides is over, and it's back to business as usual when the Robins take on reigning champions, Leeds Rhinos, in the first round of the Stobart Super League tonight (KO 8pm).

For coach, Craig Sandercock, and his players it can't come around quick enough as they're chomping at the bit to put their new structures into place and facing the champions in the first game provides an excellent opportunity to see where the squad is at and how they're going to fair this term.

“I'm excited, and so are the players, to be getting the season underway and to be facing the reigning champions in our first game – it will be a really good challenge for us,” Sandercock said

“When you look at their side, they have got about ten players who have represented their countries, currently or in the past, and we have one, so that shows the tough challenge that we have in front of us.

“Our boys have to show they are good enough, play to the best of their ability and we shall see what happens.”

Rovers have one of the toughest starts to the season, with three away fixtures in their first four outings. After tonight it's Wakefield away next weekend, before the first home game against St Helens on February 19th which is then followed by a trip to Warrington.

“The opening fixtures are not ideal as you would like a couple of home ties, but in saying that if we can gets some wins under our belt it will certainly put us in a good position come later on in the season,” Sandercock added

“The boys just want to play, they have trained really hard through pre-season, and they are looking forward to putting in to practice how we have trained, that's for sure.

“In the three friendlies that we've had against Featherstone, Wigan and Hull, I think the boys have shown that belief in themselves, and have played for each other, and there have been definite improvements in their game over the last three outings. Come Friday night, I hope we can keep improving and give a really good account of ourselves.”
