Minikin and Crooks preview Derby
Super League 2020 came back with a bang for Rovers with a 30-12 win over Wakefield Trinity in Round One, but what better way to follow that up than with a derby match away in West Hull.
Hull FC started their season with a comprehensive 30-4 win away at Leeds Rhinos and with the black and whites making eight new signings of their own, including ex-Rovers player Joe Cator, both sides will look completely different to those that lined up last season, setting us up for a cracker.
Rovers’ new wing pairing of Greg Minikin and Ben Crooks bagged a combined five tries against Wakefield, with Crooks going over for four of the six tries on the night.
Both players will want to replicate their performances and they spoke to Hull KR TV in the buildup to the derby.
“We’ve had our little celebration, now it’s head down and concentrate on the game,” Crooks said
“You’ve got to try and go about your business as though it’s a normal game however you know in the back of your mind that it’s not.
“It’s not a normal game and we’ve seen that throughout the years, on the day it doesn’t matter the form going into it and anything can happen on the day.”
Greg Minikin will be playing in his first ever Hull derby and whilst he knows the stakes he is not feeling too much pressure as he pulls on the Hull KR jersey for just his second competitive match in red and white.
“As a player you want to play in the big games and this is obviously a big game with a big atmosphere.
“If we go there confident and play our game, we’ll put our best foot forward and give ourselves a good chance.”
