Meet The Team – Stacey Blakeley
Stacey Blakeley, 29, 2nd row/centre, delivery driver.
Stacey Blakeley joined the Women’s team through the middle of the 2019 season, transferring from the Hull Warriors Masters’ team.
Blakeley was quickly identified as a strong and skilful player and was it recommended that she join Hull KR Ladies to enhance their already strong side.
Blakeley’s partner, who she has three children with, fully support her comeback to Women’s rugby. Beginning her rugby career at the age of 16 for Hull Lightning, which later changed to West Hull in 2000, she was sadly injured forced to take time out for an ACL recovery.
Although always with a smile on her face, Blakeley is the joker of the Rovers pack, she always has a smile on her face and keeps the morale high with her quick wit.
When asked why she decided to come back to rugby after a substantial time away Blakeley said: “Having my children kind of took over my life, I’ve always enjoyed rugby it’s a release for me.
“It’s a few hours a week where I can remove the mum hat and be myself amongst like-minded people. I don’t tend to take myself too seriously and when you have such a large number of women, it’s always better in involve humour when you’re having to do the 6th set of Malcom’s, it’s always a pleasure to do those.
“As a mother and someone who works full time, I think these teams are essential for overall well-being. Those few hours can give you a sense of belonging and I look forward to coming to training, even if it is hard. Hopefully we will be back at training and on the pitch sooner rather than later.”Back To Latest News +
