Harrison has the right attitude

Owen Harrison believes attitude can play a key part in Hull KR’s remaining 2019 matches after almost helping the Robins overcoming reigning Betfred Super League champions Wigan Warriors.

Competing with one of the toughest packs in the league with great confidence, the 20-year-old was in regular rotation in the forwards and longs to receive more game time following the introduction of head coach, Tony Smith.

Despite Harrison’s delight with a strong appearance, Wigan dampened the prop’s mood after slotting a last-minute drop-goal to seal a 19-18 victory over the Red and Whites.

“We are very disappointed if I’m honest,” Harrison told Hull KR TV.

“They were there to take for the full game and we could have come away with that so easily, but we just kept them in the game. I don’t think they did anything too special to deserve the win but we just kept them in it.

“I think the two tries late in the first half killed us a little bit. We did come out firing in the second half and we played well – our effort was really good, that’s all Tony spoke about since he came in. He says that if the attitude is there and the results will come, which it very nearly did.”

Harrison feels with regular game time he can continue to go from strength to strength and become a regular in Smith’s side.

“They have a good pack, do Wigan. Joel (Tomkins) told us that they will come out firing and look for you early in the game being a young lad, but it is the same as every club,” Harrison continued.

“To be honest you’re not going to get much more of a bigger pack than Wigan in the league. I feel I did alright but I want to build on it from now on and get some more game time.

“I’ve been on the bench the past few weeks and struggled for minutes. If I get some more time under my belt then I’m sure I’ll get better. That’s the only thing I’m struggling with at the minute, one week I’m in the team and the next in not.

“Tony has come in and put faith in me, he’s told me to come out and have a dig. Hopefully I’ve done enough to keep my space for next week.”
