Players impress in first week of pre-season!
Hull Kingston Rovers are nearing the end of their first week of pre-season ahead of the 2020 Betfred Super League campaign – and the coaching staff are impressed so far!
Head coach Tony Smith welcomed the vast majority of his squad back on Monday morning as preparations for the upcoming campaign began at Hull College Craven Park.
Many of the 18 new signings for 2020 walked through the doors for the first time, keen to make an impression, together with the returning players to their familiar surroundings.
Assistant coach Willie Poching told KRTV: “There’s been a few changes in personnel but there’s still a great camaraderie here.
“It’s been a nice fit for myself in the opening week. Week one has been pretty steady but we’ve had a good look at some of the younger kids – and they have jumped at anything we have thrown at them.
“Some of the skill levels are very good too and I am impressed. We have to keep improving in the upcoming weeks.”
New Head of Strength and Conditioning Ben Cooper said: “I have loved my first week. It is great to be back in, I have found the club fantastic to work with and the players too.
“I feel that the group has improved as the week has gone on. Everybody has been keen on making a good first impression, even the guys that were already here last season, so long may that continue.
“It is only week one, we will not be patting ourselves on the back too much, but it’s been a good start and we have to build on that in the weeks to come.
“Everybody has put in a real shift, but (new signing) Elliot Minchella has stood out for me – he has shown a great attitude and has done a lot of work in the gym.”
