Danny McGuire: Team effort can see us go a long way
Danny McGuire believes Hull KR’s collective effort paid off as the team progressed into the Coral Challenge Cup quarter-finals.
Rovers overcame Salford Red Devils at the AJ Bell Stadium last weekend in a 32-18 victory, booking a last-eight home tie with Warrington Wolves in the process.
A spirited performance on the road saw the Robins taste success for the first time since the previous Cup win over Leigh Centurions and McGuire is keen to use the Salford tie as a springboard for both the regular Betfred Super League campaign and the upcoming Cup clash.
“I thought we defended really well against Salford, probably the best we’d had all year,” the half-back told Hull KR TV.
“These games need a 17-man performance and everyone had a dig. Shout out to Robbie Mulhern and George Lawler who did some unbelievable work in big minutes.
“We’re a good team if we keep the ball. We can compete with the best teams and that’s the challenge going forward for us.
“I want to win – I want to try and get to the final. We have the personnel to do that. We have to have a bit of belief in ourselves and challenge ourselves too, but there are a lot of people that work hard behind the scenes – it’s up to us players to come and perform. We’ve got to back that performance up against Huddersfield this Friday night.”
