Youth Counts

in the classroom

Sports clubs from across the city joined forces in the campaign to teach children how to stand up to bullies. Anti-Bullying week promotes the message of "safer together, safer wherever" and is aimed at teaching children to work together to protect each other.

Hull Kingston Rovers representatives including members of the Community Development Team, first team new comer Daniel Fitzhenry and Club president Colin Hutton visited Sutton Place to extend the message to the young people who are currently placed there.

Hull KR’s Community Team has been working in Hull’s Secure unit Sutton Place in East Hull for six weeks. Sessions have incorporated physical games and individual fitness programmes as well as none informal discussions about teamwork, rules, leadership and respect.

Hull KR’s Social Inclusion Officer commented "Anti Bullying week is really important because it highlights an issue that a lot of children and young people face every day, however it is vital that we address bullying on an ongoing basis, not just one week of the year."

Hull KR’s ongoing partnership with Sutton Place aims to help secure unit staff to deliver sessions to young people relating to all aspects of sport and teamwork. This newly formed relationship has proved extremely successful in its infant stages.

Secure Services Manager Roy Walker OBE commented "The value of Hull KR’s work at the Centre cannot be underestimated as it shows the young people we work with what can be achieved by team work and supporting each other whatever their abilities. I would like to thank Hull KR for their support and to commend their work in this important area of young people’s lives."
