Wallis commits to three-year first team contract

Hull Kingston Rovers have confirmed the signing of promising young winger Elliot Wallis to a three-year contract from the 2019 season.

The 18-year-old speedster has made three first team appearances for the Robins this year and has been rewarded with his first professional contract with the club, making the step up from the City of Hull Academy.

Wallis, who played his amateur rugby at Skirlaugh and has a reputation of being the fastest player in the Rovers squad, joins the likes of Robbie Mulhern, Will Oakes, George Lawler and Joe Wardill in signing new long-term deals with the club and says he’s excited to be staying at KCOM Craven Park.

Speaking to hullkr.co.uk, he said: “It was all a bit unexpected really. I thought I’d do another year with the academy next season and then contracts would be sorted then, so this is a lot more than I expected. Three years gives me a lot of time to improve and hopefully I can be here for the long-term now.

“I did a bit of training with the first team last year and then I trained with the squad in pre-season. When I first came down, I didn’t think I was ready for it really but now I feel like I’ve stepped up. I’ve got to know the lads a lot more and I really feel part of the team.

“I’m enjoying playing and training with the squad. The coaches have more time to work with you here whereas at the academy you’ve got to fit all your training into the morning or the afternoon. Here, you’ve got more time to work with and I’ve been working pretty much every day with David Hodgson, getting little tips after training and things like that.

“I’ve been training full-time for a while now and I definitely feel like I’ve improved but I’ve still got a lot more to learn. I never thought I’d get game time for the first team this season so next year I want to play even more regularly if I can – that’s the aim.”
