Match Report
Clint Newton and Michael Dobson both touched down twice as the Robins recorded their fourth successive victory at home.
After a gritty display against Warrington the week before, the Robins welcomed Harlequins to Craven Park.
Jason Netherton was ruled out after injuring his calf against the Wolves, so youngster Scott Taylor was called up for his first Super League appearance since his debut at Headingley in the playoffs last season. Mike Ratu continued in the centres in place of the injured Jake Webster, who could miss the rest of the season after having surgery on his hip.
The Robins began brightly against a Quins side boosted by the return of captain Rob Purdham, opening up the visitors' defence with ease, only for slack handling to let them down.
Ben Cockayne burst straight through the heart of the Quins line before chipping over the full-back for himself, but under pressure from the recovering Luke Dorn, he couldn't re-gather cleanly.
Ben Galea's flat ball then sent Clint Newton charging through the Harlequins line, but in the collision, the ball squirted out of his grasp and the Londoners escaped.
Then minutes later, Scott Murrell moved the ball wide on the last tackle, allowing Mike Ratu to free Peter Fox. Mick Vella was racing up in support, but the winger's inside ball was too low for the tall Australian to reel in at full pace.
The visitors were looking dangerous themselves as they kept the ball alive, but the Red and Whites' defence was working hard and they were soon rewarded as the Quins' fringe defence was found wanting once again.
Michael Dobson's flat ball sent Newton blasting through the visitors' line and over for the game's first try.
Dobson converted, and six minutes later, Newton had bagged his second. Scott Murrell's offload put Ben Fisher over, but a combination of Dorn and Purdham prevented him from getting the ball down. However the Quins were not to be let off, and another short ball from Dobson sent Newton over again.
The early danger posed by the Londoners was now a thing of the past, as the Robins began to hit their stride and dominate proceedings.
Fox's enthusiasm almost brought him a try on the half-hour mark, as he chased Murrell's long kick and caught Will Sharp napping to dive in to touch down. Referee Richard Silverwood consulted with his in-goal judge before ruling that Dorn had just managed to ground the ball before Fox and award a drop-out.
Once again the Quins thought they had seen off the danger, but the Robins had other ideas, as Dobson's dummy and footwork mesmerised the visitors' defence before the scrum-half raced past Chris Melling to score.
Dobson converted again, and with half-time approaching, Rovers created another two golden chances, only to let them slip through their fingers.
Direct from a scrum, Ben Cockayne's long ball put Kris Welham away down the touchline. As Jamie O'Callaghan got back to him, the youngster offloaded one-handed, but the ball was just too low for Cockayne to hold on to.
Then in the final minute, Newton powered straight through the Quins' marker defence, only for his pass to slip through the fingers of Josh Hodgson and leave the Robins only three scores ahead at the break.
Half-Time: Hull KR 18 Harlequins RL 0
In spite of their pressure and chances, the Robins were by no means over the winning line, but only five minutes after the restart they were handed a score which secured their fourth straight win at Craven Park.
Dorn telegraphed a long ball and Dobson flew in to pick it off before outpacing Sharp over 80 metres to touch down under the posts.
Dobson converted, and four minutes later, he was adding the extras to the Red and Whites' fifth try.
Newton turned in a two-man tackle and slipped the ball away to the supporting Shaun Briscoe, who spun out of a soft attempt at a tackle from Dorn to dive over.
The Robins were looking hungry for more points, but taking a blow to the leg, Briscoe was withdrawn and the subsequent reshuffle saw them slip out of their stride.
As the hour mark approached, the Red and Whites did manage to engineer another score, as Vella's pass allowed the impressive Rhys Lovegrove to break through, and Scott Wheeldon was in support to score.
The Quins were still a dangerous prospect as they looked to keep the ball alive at every opportunity, and they managed to get themselves on the scoreboard when Danny Ward barged over from close range.
Danny Orr converted, but that was as good as it was going to get for the Londoners, as the Robins finished strongly, with Liam Watts' break allowing Joel Clinton to collect his first Rovers try.
Dobson added his seventh successful conversion from as many attempts, and as time ticked down, the Robins showed their spirit and determination to deny the visitors a second score.
Dorn looked to have broken the Red and Whites' resistance as he raced into space, slipping out of the clutches of Cockayne, but just as he was picking his spot to score, Fox tracked back to pounced on him and force the Harlequins full-back to knock-on.
That epitomised the Robins' efforts and togetherness in a committed team performance, and they finished deserved winners to complete their first double over the Quins in Super League.
