Trust nominated for Championship award

The Hull Kingston Rovers Community Trust has been nominated for an award at next week’s 2017 Kingstone Press Championship and League 1 awards.

A successful partnership with Oasis Academy in Wintringham, North East Lincolnshire is the project that has been nominated for recognition, with the Trust first starting working with the school as part of the Sky Try scheme back in September 2016.

Initially involving the Trust’s community coaches going into the school for a six-week period, it’s since grown into a partnership for the foreseeable future after introducing over 350 pupils, both boys and girls of all abilities, to rugby league.

Just after Easter, Oasis Academy took part in the Trust’s Sky Try nines festival and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. This resulted in them going on to form a partnership with Archbishop Sentamu School, who are based in east Hull close to KCOM Craven Park, with a friendly match between the schools earlier this season seeing the Lincolnshire academy earning an impressive 22-22 draw on their first outing.

The winners of the community awards will be announced at the 2017 Kingstone Press Championship and League 1 annual dinner in Manchester on Monday.
