Robins tie down prop Green
Promising prop James Green has committed his future to Hull KR after signing a new two-year contract extension with the club.
The former Skirlaugh Bulls front rower has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with the Red and Whites in 2014 having starred in all but one of his side’s matches so far this season despite fierce competition for places in the forward pack.
Already a huge fans’ favourite thanks to his displays, the 23-year-old told www.hullkr.co.uk he is delighted to agree a new deal.
"I've been at the club for three years now and I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here. The way the club is going, with the way the board want to move forward and how things are going on the field, it's a great place to be,” he said.
"I've been given an opportunity to play in Super League under Sandy and at the beginning of the season if you'd told me how many games I'd have played so far this year, I'd have snapped your hand off.
"Working with the likes of Justin Poore and Michael Weyman has been great. They've spent a lot of time with me on the training ground but I've played pretty much every game with them too and I've been learning from their example out on the field.
"I'm really pleased to have my future sorted so I can just concentrate on my rugby. The aim now is to play as many games as possible over the next couple of years and of course it's every player's dream to play for their country. That's a few years away yet but it's definitely something I want to work towards."
Meanwhile, head coach Craig Sandercock is thrilled to have Green as part of his squad for the next two years.
He said, "He's come a long way in a fairly short space of time and over the past two or three years we've been really happy with the improvements in his game.
"Unfortunately, you can't keep everyone but James is a player we identified that we'd like to keep. He's come through our academy system, he's made his debut at this great club and we really think he could become one of our premier front rowers in the years to come.
"In round one this year, we had a full complement of players and he earned selection on his own merit, and if he keeps developing and learning, we're very confident that be will become a very good player.
"He is one of our local, home-grown players who we think is going to get even better and that's why he fully deserves this new two-year deal."
