Craig Sandercock’s post match reaction
Rovers' Head Coach, Craig Sandercock, was delighted to see his side come back from 18-6 down to topple the Huddersfield Giants and believes that it will give them renewed confidence and belief.
"We finally got an 80 minute performance and were consistent in our application and endeavour throughout the game and got away with a win," he said. "I said to the boys after the game that when you play a top side you need all 17 players contributing and I thought they all did today.
"The victory will instill some confidence and belief in the boys but I know that we've got a pretty good football team here that have been competitive in every single game we've played so far this season.
"Lapses in concentration have cost us, but today we didn't have any of those lapses and also only picked up two penalties in the whole game so to score 40 points was pleasing."
Having conceded those 18 points early on, the Robins tightened up their defence and kept the Giants to just one more try in the last hour of the game. It was that desire to defend that gave the Rovers' coach the most satisfaction.
"Our defence was probably the most pleasing aspect of our performance today, especially in the second half," he continued. "We did concede a very soft try but generally speaking I thought we defended our line with vigour.
"Obviously the boys are happy in the dressing room but we've got a short turnaround before we play next Friday night so they won't get to enjoy this result for too long.
"I think they showed today that they've got a bit of attitude, character and belief in themselves to get back into a game but obviously I don't like having to come back from that kind of deficit.
"The game was going the way of the St Helens game earlier in the season when we were down by a long way and came back so it was just pleasing to get the win today. We still have a long way to go though."
