Rovers support school team as part of girls’ rugby project

Hull Kingston Rovers are offering their support to a girls’ rugby team in the city as part of a project from the Community Trust to recruit girls interested in playing rugby competitively for the club.

The Trust started new Female Hubs twelve months ago to help develop players for teams at U12’s, U14’s and U16’s level, with around half a dozen players from Malet Lambert’s successful Year 7 team amongst those regularly attending sessions.

The club are now actively recruiting more girls’ players between the ages of 11 and 16 with training sessions taking place every Monday and Thursday from 6pm to 7.30pm on the community pitches behind the Joinery Depot East Stand at KCOM Craven Park.

Girls looking to play just for fun are welcome, but the overall aim is to prepare a team to play competitively in a new RFL girls’ competition from next season.

Meanwhile, Malet Lambert’s Year 7 girls’ team will now compete in the final of the Champion Schools Trophy against Castleford High School at Wembley next month, on the evening before the Challenge Cup final.

The team need to raise funds in order to fund the trip and any donations would be gratefully received. Please click here to visit their JustGiving page.
