Rovers and York to compete in Cockayne testimonial

Partner clubs Hull Kingston Rovers and York City Knights will compete in a pre-season friendly at KCOM Craven Park in honour of Ben Cockayne’s testimonial.

The match will take place on Sunday, 7th January (3pm) and will see Rovers favourite Cockayne, who enjoyed a long career with the Robins, return to the stadium with his new side, the Knights, who he’s joined for the 2018 campaign.

As well as giving fans the chance to support Ben’s testimonial, the match will also be the first of three pre-season friendlies lined up by head coach Tim Sheens to prepare for the club’s return to the Betfred Super League.

Entry will be priced at £12 adults, £10 concessions (over 65s and students) and £5 for juniors under 16. Tickets will not be available in advance, with all supporters paying on the turnstiles on the day. Fans are therefore advised to give themselves more time than usual to enter the ground on matchday.

Corporate tables can be booked now and are priced at £350 for a table of 10, which includes a bottle of wine on the table and two courses in the Legends Lounge. To book, please email Jon at

Speaking about the occasion, Cockayne said: “To have my testimonial game against Hull KR for my new side York is the perfect fit for me and both clubs. It gives Rovers fans an opportunity to see their partner club in action and also gives York supporters the chance to come along and see some of the KR players who may well be featuring at the Knights on dual registration in 2018.

“I think it also gives the clubs as a whole, from fans, players and staff, the opportunity to further strengthen the bond and connection between the two clubs and I’m really looking forward to the occasion.

“Although it may be strange lining up against Rovers it’s a day that I’m already excited about. For us boys at York, we get to test ourselves against quality opposition and I also think it’ll be a great challenge for a strong Rovers team and a great start to 2018 for both clubs.

“As always, your support is very much appreciated and I look forward to running out at KCOM Craven Park for what will most likely be my last ever time as a player. See you all on the 7th!”
