“Flash” Flanagan statue fundraiser launched…

Tonight the family of Peter “Flash” Flanagan, with the support of Hull Kingston Rovers, unveiled a special plaque outside the Floc Roger Millward stand to commemorate Flash’s life.

In addition plans were also revealed to 'crowd fund' the remaining balance needed to complete a statue of the iconic hooker. £10,000 has already been raised for this cause but a further £20,000 is needed to to make this happen.

Everything is in place and ready for the statue to be made and as soon as the funds are secured the work will go ahead.

Flash was a well-loved local lad born and bred in East Hull. The youngest of eight children, he attended St Mary's school Wilton Street. He was head boy. On leaving school he worked on the docks. He loved where he was from.

Flash had played for his beloved Hull Kingston Rovers since 1960, when his great friend and coach Colin Hutton locked him in the changing room at the ground after his trial. This story is immortalised in the Dream Scene forever, alongside other legendary greats of Rovers past and present. He went on to have a 15-year career at the club.

The statue will be a celebration of one of the best hookers to ever come out of Hull. You will remember the past when you see the famous quiff and a playing stance of the superb player he was, and you will be able to imagine that side-step that left some of the greatest players in the world flat-footed.

Supporters can make a pledge here and will recieve the following incentives...

£500 or above: a North Stand Box for a home match except for Hull KR v. Hull FC, an access all areas stadium tour, a signed shirt, signed poster and a mention in the match day programme

£200 - £499: 2 tickets for a match of your choice except for Hull KR v. Hull FC, an access all areas stadium tour, a signed poster and a mention in the match day programme

Below £100: a mention in the match day programme

Further funds will be raised with the launch of a new 1964 retro jersey which is set to go on sale 9am this Saturday at the Rovers Retail Store. Priced at £54.99, proceeds from the shirt will be donated to the fund.
