ROBINS SCOOP AWARDS TREBLE
Tuesday 1st December 2009
The Hull and East Yorkshire Sporting Heroes and Champions Awards, in association with Hull Trains and KCFM, was attended by local sporting heroes and proved an excellent night at the City Hall last Thursday.
It was a particularly successful night for Robins and England full-back Shaun Briscoe who scooped the 'Professional Sports Personality of the Year Award' after winning the public vote against Ian Ashbee (Hull City), Richard Horne (Hull FC) and Lee Esders (Hull Sitngrays).
Briscoe also took home an award for his outstanding work in the local community. Along with Hull City’s Nicky Barmby and Hull FC’s Lee Radford, Briscoe was recognised for going above and beyond his duties as a professional rugby league player and was given the ‘Professional Player Community Engagement’ award.
Head Coach Justin Morgan was on hand to present the ‘Talented Amateur Disabled Performer’ award to 14-year old wheelchair racer, Harry Withers. Harry is ranked 9th in the world in for the 100 metres and 8th in the 200 metre discipline and hopes to compete at the Paralympics.
Morgan watched on as his team claimed the ‘Professional Sporting Moment of the Year’ accolade. This was again voted for by you, the fans, with last season’s double over St. Helens receiving the most votes ahead of other great sporting moments for the city including Hull City’s 2-1 win over Arsenal at the Emirates.
Shaun Briscoe and the club as a whole would like to send a huge thank-you to all supporters who took the time to vote on the Hull and East Yorkshire Sports Awards website and made the night such a massively successful one for the club.
