COLBON PRIMED FOR TIMELY ROVERS RETURN

Story in brief:
HULL KR winger Liam Colbon is in line to make a timely comeback to the Robins starting line-up after missing the last 15 games through injury...

Colbon fractured his jaw against Catalans back in March and suffered knee ligament damage as he prepared to make his comeback against the same opposition in May.

Now Colbon is fully fit and at a crucial stage for Rovers who will be without centres Kris Welham, Jake Webster and Michael Ratu through injury and utility back Ben Cockayne who is serving the first match of a two-game ban.

The former Wigan-man was in fine form before his injury, scoring a match winning hat-trick against St. Helens at Craven Park and admits the double injury blow was a massive frustration.

"I don't remember much about the actual incident itself (in which he fractured his jaw)," said Colbon.

"I remember the flight home- it was horrendous. I wasn't able to swallow anything because the jaw was displaced and then having liquidised food for the next six weeks wasn't the best.

"Then in my first contact session back my knee got twisted in a tackle and I had a tear in my medial ligaments and it meant another six weeks out. It was a bit more frustration.

"I wouldn't say I'm back up to full fitness but in terms of the fitness I can do I'm there or thereabouts. I won't know until I play an actual game exactly where I am."

Liam Colbon was in a rich vein of try scoring form before his injury, including a hat-trick against St. Helens

As Colbon has entered the final stages of his rehabilitation he has had the added incentive of returning to a team playing some excellent rugby, and he hopes his comeback can signal another purple patch for Rovers after derby day agony last time out.

"Over the last month our form has drastically improved and everyone, especially our forwards, have been going really well.

"Last week was a bit of a blip but we won't look to read too much into that and instead we'll look at the form over the last month that has shown a steady increase compared to the rest of the season.

"Hopefully we can get back to the form we showed against Leeds and kick-on from there."

The red and whites will face a Bradford side in the midst of a nine-game losing run, but Colbon insists there will be no chance of complacency in the KR ranks.

"We're not particularly focussed on what they're doing really," explained the 25-year old.

"You can't forget that we're on the back of a defeat against Hull so we feel we've got a bit of a point to prove and we're smarting from that loss.

"We're focussing on ourselves and getting back to the sort of form we showed against Leeds.

"You don't become a bad player overnight and there are a lot of good players there. They're probably just looking for a little bit of luck to kick start their season so we've just got to try and approach the game ultra professional, try to squeeze the life out of them in the first twenty minutes and make sure they don't get the breaks."

Tickets for tomorrow's game are still on sale in both of the club's Official Retail Stores at Craven Park or 269 Holderness Road, online via www.hullkrsuperstore.co.uk, or by calling 0844 2490 105.
