YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRESS EXCITES HUDGELL
Friday 23rd July 2010
Writing in his progamme notes for Saturday's home game against Bradford Bulls, Hudgell praises the progress made by the club's U18s who have qualified for the top group in the second phase of their league programme.
That ranks them alongside the likes of St Helens, Wigan Warriors and Leeds Rhinos - and ahead of several more established Super League clubs.
However, Hudgell warns the hard work must continue and admits patience is still the key before fans can expect to see 'decent numbers' of local youngsters progressing to the first team.
Hudgell says: "I would like to congratulate our U18s on the fine season they are having so far. Last weekend here at Craven Park, they got the better of a highly rated Wigan outfit.
"A six figure investment year-on-year in our youth structures is key to the long term strategic development of the club.
"The early signs of that are good although we need to stay patient before we can expect decent numbers of local kids making it onto the senior team sheet."

Rovers have also made encouraging progress at U15 and U16 level this term and earlier this week highlighted their commitment by signing nine youngsters on contracts - a record number for the club.
In addition, several home-grown players are looking to challenge for places in coach Justin Morgan's first team squad.
